Introduction

He was supposed to be the best of all Nandeeswara’s disciples. He lived for many thousand years and wrote, what is popularity known as TIRUMANDIRAM 3000, in Tamil. He taught yoga and explained its importance to the people. He had laid down the ‘dos’ and ‘don’t’s for the common man, in his writings.

Originally called SUNDARANAR, he once had to get into the dead body of a cowherd called MOOLAN. His old body was missing and he had to stay in the new physical body and was came to be known as Tirumoolar.

With the help of Pranayams he explained the ways and means of activating the six charkas in the body, the easiest way to escape death, and getting the ‘darshan’ of the ‘the whole’ (paripurna) inside ones own body.

He had written about the importance of Panchatchara Mantra and the Principles of Siddhas. Even an ordinary man can read and understand his poems. He had proved that, without, the use of mantras / herbs / rasa vada, and with the use of pranayams alone one can become a siddha. But, like all other siddhas, he also wrote on herbs, Rasa vada, Vasi yoga etc.

It is believed, that he lived for about 8000 years. In his last 3000 years, he wrote 3000 poems at a rate of one per year. His Tamil poems were hidden by the jealous Veda / Agama pandits, but was later discovered by Gnana Sambanda. Tirumoolar was a siddha, who had no competitors. He had started a category of siddhas in his own style.
